A little history on Hudson Florida
our hometown since 1995
At the end of Hudson Avenue are natural salt and fresh water tidal springs and Hudson Creek, both of which have contributed to the development of our community, since it's establishment in 1878. Spongers from Key West and the Bahamas came in the 1880's and developed substantial sponging and fishing businesses that continued to grow until the late 1940's. Along the banks of the creek fish houses and warehouses were built where the railroad track also ran. The railroad allowed fish and supplies to be shipped to nearby lumber towns of Fivary and Sagano for local use and delivery to other towns.
The Springs Hotel was located at the head of the nautral springs. The hotel was the center of activities for the saltwater fishing and hunting enthustiasts from the early 1900's until 1943. Fourth of July celebrations were held at the springs, policital rallies and fish fries were sponsored by community residents.
There are many historical structures in Hudson, the Hudson Home on Pine Street, the Littell Home also on Pine both built in 1878. The Old Methodist Church on Hudson Avenue was built in 1882 by Baptists. It stood on the corner of Hudson and Main before being moved to its present location. It has been used as community church, a post office, a retail store, and a schoolhouse. In the 1930's it was also a private residence.
